We went into Birmingham yesterday to do a bit of shopping - we took my sister and her boyfriend Ade along. We saw Mirrormask at the Electric Cinema - they were showing it as part of the Flatpack festival. http://www.artscentral.co.uk/openevent.asp?eventid=18834 The film was fantastic, very reminiscent of Labyrinth but with a more dream like quality, partly from the use of CGI over Muppetry I think. Then Gill and Tor went off to investigate the strange sweets available in the supermarkets of the chinese quarter while me and ade headed for Nostalgia & Comics. picked up both Global frequency collections ;) and when we came back Ade fixed the PC - new HD installed and our stuff backed up, though now of course it's stopped making the ominous clicking noises. could well have been the old 20g drive that failed playing up, either way the PC's working now. and then we watched Ong bak and OldBoy | | Friday, December 2nd, 2005 | | 7:07 pm |

haxor geek datery - the scary things that happen when the obsessive compulsive hacker mentaility is applie to dating http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/12.06/dating_pr.htmlI liked the guy who uses a scary combination of WiFi and IM to get chatting to people... and the stalkers are scary - linking into peoples WiFi, grabbing data and cross referencing it via Friendster and other low security social network sites it's scary how much of a profile you can work up on someone. a Global Frequency TV show? http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=3752well, they need a core set of characters to pitch the thing, but have new guests each episode "24" with elements from the earlier seasons of "The X-Files" sounds promiscing... Warren Ellis said that he had seen the budget for the "Global Frequency" pilot and was shocked. "Warren's just shocked because he's still burdened by a soul," Rogers joked, "It's just horribly expensive compared to, oh, say, feeding poor people or providing free health care to the sick. In TV terms, it's right down the middle." a useful Latin phrasebook, from the Asterix comics http://www.asterix-obelix.nl/latin-uk.htm | | Saturday, May 22nd, 2004 | | 12:07 am |

Neutral: Harmony and balance is key. You don't look at the world in a negative or positive way and you'll never judge or assume a situation- you just look at the facts. People like you are peaceful and accepting. What color do you see the world in? brought to you by Quizilla | | Wednesday, March 12th, 2003 | | 6:27 pm |

Tears For Fears Mad World All around me are familiar faces Worn out places, worn out faces Bright and early for their daily races Going nowhere, going nowhere And their tears are filling up their glasses No expression, no expression Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow No tommorow, no tommorow And I find it kind of funny I find it kind of sad The dreams in which I'm dying Are the best I've ever had I find it hard to tell you 'Cos I find it hard to take When people run in circles It's a very, very Mad World Children waiting for the day they feel good Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday Made to feel the way that every child should Sit and listen, sit and listen Went to school and I was very nervous No one knew me, no one knew me Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson Look right through me, look right through me | | Tuesday, November 12th, 2002 | | 8:42 pm |
'All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you they will kill you. But first they must catch you, Digger, Listener, Runner, Prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people will never be destroyed." ---------------------------------------- ---------------------- Said Smygo, the iconoclast of Zothique: "Bear a hammer with thee always, and break down any terminus on which is written: 'So far shalt thou pass, but no farther go."' ---------------------------------------- ---------------------- "When he crossed the bridge, the phantoms came to meet him." | | Wednesday, November 6th, 2002 | | 6:46 pm |
Censorship
"Oh, Don't worry - we only burn *Bad* Books..." The fact that it's the year 2002 and people are still trying to stop, control and censor what we can or can't read, write or say just infuriates me... http://www.ala.org/bbooks/“More than 20 authors, artists, columnists and librarians gathered on the front steps of the American Library Association (ALA) in Chicago today and voiced their freedom to read by participating in a read-out of banned books. The read-out celebrated the American freedom to read and drew attention to censorship issues that continue today.” Freedom to read http://www.freedomtoread.ca/"These are not easy times for those who are in the business of disseminating ideas, such as booksellers, librarians, publishers, school boards, exhibitors, artists, teachers and writers. Far too many people, lacking the will or ability to dispute ideas they don't like, seek the easier route of banning ideas and vilifying those who articulate them. The victims of these tactics are not just institutions, businesses and authors, but the reading public. Without freedom to read, democracy itself is at risk." HOW TO SPOT A WOULD-BE CENSOR The type of person who challenges books · Invariably denies being in favour of censorship; · Has rarely read the work in whole or often even in part; · Quotes excerpts out of context; · Demonizes the author and his/her other works. KILLER hair dye!
PPD (para-phenylenediamine) This chemical is the main source of concern. It is found in dark hair dyes - concentrations of up to six per cent are legal - and is easily absorbed through the skin on the scalp and the hands. Research has shown that people who use dark coloured permanent dyes every four to six weeks have twice the incidence of bladder cancer, which causes 4,900 deaths each year in Britain. Advice: Use less dark dye and apply less often. http://www.femail.co.uk/pages/standard/article.html?in_article_id=142854&in_page_id=88bum. We've just done my hair for whitby... thanks for the warning scarybex |
